An undocumented Mexican immigrant poses with an unfinished self-portrait in his one-room apartment. As a painter trained in Mexico’s most respected art academies, he came to the U.S. two years ago for economic reasons and now works at the meatpacking plant in town. “I don’t know where I’ll end up next and I don’t mind,” he said, “I’m a vagabond.”
