Jeff Atwood (left), a retired, longtime Beardstown resident, chats with a friend at a Mexican owned bar where he volunteers his help to pass the time. Mexican immigrants and Anglo natives still rarely socialize and while the social climate is now quiet, racial tensions flourished a few years ago with the unanticipated influx of the Ku Klux Klan.
